Hey friends I saw Sonuji's Bheege Bheege nayan from Classically Mild being aired in an upcoming T.V.Serial titled as "Ranbir Rano", it was shown in the promo of the serial that it was a couple in the rain and in the background this song was being played and the girl in that was planning a plot shrewdly as usual in all the T.V.Serials, hehe..

Anyways I felt elated that thank God, atleast they have promoted the album anyhow and it will reach atleast to ears of some more out there who appreciate music but are unaware of the album...

Be it the warmth of Sonu Niigaam’s voice or his gestures, his charm never ceases to fade. An accomplished artiste in himself and an insipration for many budding singers, Sonu’s finally back on the scene after a two-year-long break from Bollywood music industry. Of this and more, he gets candid in an interview with us...

We haven’t been hearing you much. Any particular reason for keeping a low profile?
I have been in America for the last two years and was busy doing concerts, making friends etc. Actually I wanted to seclude myself from the world to analyse my life and many other things. I didn’t want to repeat things that I have been doing for the past 15 years. This, in the process has helped me in taking filtered work. Now I work for only those with whom I gel.

How has music helped you grow?
Music is a part of life; it’s not my entire life. I am not a clichéd singer who would say ‘I can't live without music.’ There are different faculties that I invest my time into like reading, dancing, playing percussion, yoga and a lot more. Being very specific, ‘Music is an expression of my hardwork.’

Tell us about your new projects?
I have done a song for Aditya Chopra’s SRK starrer upcoming film. Actually Aditya wanted a voice who could give shades of five great actors of yesteryears – Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rishi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Shammi Kapoor. It’s a cult song. Apart from this I am working with Sajid-Wajid, AR Rahman, Vashu Bhagnani and others.

What more apart from singing?
I have been reading scripts for many movies. My last performance in Kash... Aap Humare Hote was appreciated, so now I am being careful about selecting movies. Besides that, every week I get at least two offers from music channels but I don't want to do shows which aim at insulting the contestants and creating controversies.


Do you think global financial crisis will affect music fraternity and the singers?
In India, singers earn only by way of concerts and shows. So obviously, if these shows get affected, it will impact singers and music fraternity too.
There was a controversy about a journalist sending you gay messages and asking for private time. You held a press conference but then later refused to talk about it. Why?
It was the right thing to do at that time. I didn’t want to dwell on it anymore, and it's not such an important part of my life. That journalist behaved like a child and I just tried curbing it. I don’t have any grudge against him; I hope he doesn’t have it either.

Talat Aziz’s latest album promises to be his most versatile so far
It's been a while since ghazal singer Talat Aziz burst on the Indian classical music scene with the melodic Baat phholon ki and Zindagi jab bhi teri bazm from Umrao Jaan. Aziz’s stirring voice now returns with Carvaan-e-Ghazal, a nine-track album produced by Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Music that will release in January 2009.

Aziz’s previous album, Silver Jubilee Concert, in 2004, met with lukewarm response. This album, he says, follows a more contemporary sound. Aziz has been lately accused of tampering with the original ghazal sound and blending it with jazz and other forms. “I don’t see anything wrong with experimenting with sound especially at a time when Urdu as a language is fading,” says Aziz.

“It is important to make youngsters relate to this form of singing.” Aziz acknowledges the dwindling audience for ghazals, but is optimistic that things will improve. Interestingly, the singer has chosen completely unknown verse by his favourite poets- like Ghalib, Zafar and Faiz Ahmad Faiz for this album.

“So far Ghalib has overshadowed most Urdu writers. But there are many other great poets as well,” he says. One of the tracks from the album is a duet with playback singer Sonu Nigam. Talking about interactions between Pakistani and Indian singers coming to a halt post the Mumbai attacks, Aziz says, “We can’t hamper the musical relationship that has been shared for decades, just because of a few crazy men.”

The event was well attended by the music fraternity, music was given by Murtuza Mustafa and Qadir Mustafa, the voice was led by Padmabhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, to give ovation were Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Ismail darbar, Sameer Sen, Mauli Dave, Shruti Pathak, Actor Anuuj Sahwney and others. Live Earth India Canceled In Wake Of Attacks

MUMBAI, India -- Live Earth India has been canceled in the wake of attacks in Mumbai, believed to be the work of terrorists, Access Hollywood has learned.
"Due to circumstances far beyond our control, we are saddened to announce that Live Earth India has been canceled," Al Gore and Live Earth CEO Kevin Wall said in a joint statement released to Access. "We will continue to work for solutions to the climate crisis for the good of the people of India and around the world."
Live Earth was due to take place in Mumbai, India on December 7, featuring artist including Bon Jovi and Roger Waters.
According to a source close to the concert, "covert security" was dispatched to Mumbai to remove the Live Earth staff members who were in the city preparing for the concert. They were taken to a Marriot hotel by the security team before being flown out of the country.
"Everyone involved with Live Earth India, from our U.S.- and India-based staff, artists and crew to our India-based broadcast, production, non-profit and marketing communications partners, is stunned and saddened by the tragic events of the past few days in our host city Mumbai," the statement from Gore and Wall continued. "We always felt very welcomed and safe as we spent more time on the ground in Mumbai to finalize plans for Live Earth India, scheduled for December 7."
Gore and Wall concluded their statement offering their prayers for those affected by the incidents.
"For now, our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims of this terrible attack, with the bereaved, with the people of Mumbai and with everyone in India," their statement concluded.

Sony telecast a Sonu Nigam concert in London (An Evening In London). The concert was a tribute to Mohammad Rafi, and Sonu sang — very well — many of the singer’s memorable numbers (as well as a few of the not-somemorable ones). But the really interesting part of the concert was that Sonu was accompanied — not by his musicians from Mumbai — but by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. I almost did a double take, seeing all the solemn-faced Brits industriously playing music for songs like Chaahe koi mujhe junglee kahe on their violins and cellos. It was also good to see a film event that wasn’t an award function crammed with dance performances. A show called "Rafi Resurrected" - by Sonu Nigaam in front of a sold out Birmingham Symphony concert hall with a live orchestra was telecasted last Sunday on Sony TV. If ever there was a singer who idolised Rafi saab and could probably sing his songs with utmost ease it has to be Sonu Nigaam. A tremendous evening with one lilting tune after another was sung with the orchestra which was completely filled with people of British origin. Can't wait for the album to hit the market . Am sure to buy it !Youtube videos as always, provide the required snippets of the concert. Be it "Patthar ke sanam" or "yaad na jaaye" or "dil ke jharoke se" or "yahoo" , it was sung with perfection! Part 1SONU NIIGAAM, who is working on an English album, tells ANKIT AJMERA that he believes in reinventing himself and experimenting with different genres of musicSonu Nigam seems to be a very busy man. After completing three solo albums this year — Classically Mild, Rafi Resurrected and Maha Ganesha — he is now working on an English pop album.

Recently he also performed with Indian sitar funk Niladri Kumar and renowned jazz pianist Jean Francois Maljean. It was for the first time the three artists performed together in India. Their music was an amalgamation of Indian classical, jazz and pop.Sonuji - “It’s been raining films but I haven’t decided which ones to pick.

Concerts are keeping me busy presently and I am finding it hard to find time for the second video of my album Classically Mild. I can’t talk about my English album though,” he says. The English album is titled Spirit Unfolding and will be a fusion of English and Eastern tunes. It is likely to be released by March next year.

Sonu believes in reinventing himself and experimenting with different styles of music. “For me variety is the spice of life. If you remember I started with Accha Sila Diya in Bewafa Sanam and gradually moved to making better music,” he says.

Like his music, Sonu also believes in working with his looks. He is often seen donning a new look nowadays. He says, “I like to experiment with my looks. I believe if you are upgrading yourself in your work then it must reflect in your looks too.” Coming back to the English album, he says it was not a planned move. “I am not a meticulous planner and nothing is ever planned in my life. I grew listening to jazz and English pop music and always wanted to make English songs. Now I just got the opportunity and so I am doing it,” he says.It’s been a long time since Sonu acted in any film. Is he doing anything on the acting front? “There are things in the pipeline but nothing has materialised yet,” he says. What does he think of a film like Rock On? Would he have liked to play one of the characters in the film? “I haven’t watched the film but my parents say it’s a superb movie. So I believe it must be good. If a role was offered to me in Rock On, I would have definitely done it. But it was never offered to me,” he says.

Sonu, who is a fitness freak himself and took initial lessons of exercising from the actor, said: "I started my fitness lessons with Salman. It is during that time that I saw him exercising and found his legs in perfect shape with perfect muscles.""We are familiar with his perfect six-pack abs and the upper body muscles, but fans have yet to see his muscular legs, which are so perfect. Mumbai, Nov 14 (IANS) He is one of the most successful and popular playback singers in Bollywood, but it is acting that gives Sonu Nigam greater happiness.”I admit my films did not do well, but my work was appreciated. Acting gave me great happiness. Not a single critic wrote bad things about my performance. I think it is better to be appreciated in a flop than to be a part of a hit film where your work is not recognised,” Sonu told IANS.

Sonu said he still gets acting offers, but can’t accept them.“I am busy with my singing assignments which include shows, playback singing and private albums. Right now I am busy with my shows abroad and also a few albums. So, I have put aside my acting offers. But I am open for it and will perhaps do a project a year later.”In the recent past, he had shows in Birmingham, London and Manchester in Britain and in various cities in the UAE.Sonu, who has won 33 awards for playback singing including the Filmfare award, says initially music directors were hesitant to work with him.“I was never the first choice for the best compositions. Music directors used to give all the good compositions to singers like Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Abhijeet. I was only offered qawali or songs that needed a voice like Rafi,” said Nigam, who has recorded the highest number of songs of Mohammad Rafi in T-Series’s “Rafi Ki Yaadein” series.

Today he is singing for top league actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, among others.Sonu, who started his career as a playback singer with Gulshan Kumar’s “Aaja Meri Jaan”, also clarified that Kumar was not his mentor.“Gulshan Kumar gave me the much-needed break, but he was not responsible for shaping my career.”

In India, they call him the man with the golden voice. But despite continued requests from Bollywood's music directors, 35-year-old Sonu Niigam has all but turned his back on a profitable playback career. He prefers instead to tap into a vast back catalogue of hits that he uses for lucrative live shows in India and around the world. Certainly, the fans are lining up to see him in action – a recent show in London where he performed the hits of Bollywood legend Mohammed Rafi was totally sold out.

Q - Dubai can expect to see a touch of that when Niigam returns to the Dubai Tennis Stadium for his annual concert on Thursday.

A - But audiences should expect something totally new, he told Emirates Business at his Mumbai home last week. We talked to him about the show, his passion for music, Mohammad Rafi, and his selective approach to Bollywood.

Q - What can Dubai audiences expect from your show next week?

A - Dubai is a rich centre, not just in terms of its financial status, but also in terms of the taste of its people. It's always a pleasure to perform in front of an audience who is aware of your real calibre. I have worked out a different sort of show for Dubai this time, because in Dubai you can experiment and try new stuff. But of course I am not going to tell you what that will be.

Q - You're just back from the UK. I believe your London gig was sold out?

A - The first show was at Birmingham. The audience there are usually very prim and proper – you know, the sort that only clap at the end of a show. They're not like Indian audiences who keep screaming throughout. And that show was a grand success. So the curiosity levels were extremely high in London and the tickets were all sold out. And it was a great success too.

Q - Tell us about the incident a couple of months ago when a girl ran onto stage and kissed you? Weren't you injured?

A - The girl didn't intend to injure me. She just held on to me as she was dragged away. The stage scene is very different and India is just opening up to it now. But in the West, crazier things happen. I was surprised as I have not seen such adulation before. But such things are proof that the artist is doing well and I take it as a huge compliment. So the more it happens, the better I feel.

Q - Talking about variety, the album you put out earlier this year, Classically Mild, is different from what you normally do?

A - I wanted to do something more substantial. I did the album for people who have always come to me and asked what's wrong with Indian music. It was an album meant for people who love classical music. I don't expect people who aren't interested in classical music to buy it. And this is something I can be proud of when I'm older.

Q - You've cut back on playback singing – are the rumours that you've given up Bollywood true?

A - I'm not giving it up altogether but I won't be singing as much I did before. I'm looking forward to a few good songs. It's just that I'm a little careful and like to do some quality music now. I'm not at the stage any more where I need to do a vast quantity of work. I see music as just a part of my life now; when I turn 70 and am not able to sing, I don't want to feel that I didn't do anything in life besides singing.

Q - What about reports that you're making an acting comeback?

A - I am short of time right now. I have not finalised anything as I have lots of other work.

Sonu Nigam has traversed a long in his career winning hearts of millions of people both in his country and abroad. The singing king is back to India with his new achievements in the form of experience as well as love of audience from his Birmingham symphony. Here is a brief of conversation with Sonu regarding his journey to the Birmingham…

Q. You have represented Md. Rafi’s voice at the Birmingham. How is the experience?

A. It is fare well. At the same time I am amased with the love and appreciation they offered me with. I would like to tell you about an interesting incident. Normally you should find very suited-booted kinda sophisticated audience in any symphony. They appreciate songs with almost inaudible claps. But Indians are always Indians. They simply cannot enjoy any concert without screaming and proving their presence aloud. But the conductor of the show, Michael, was very shocked with the sight. Michael had previously doubt of my presence as a singer also; but then he believed my fame when girls went frantic with my name.


Q. Which kind of songs of Md. Rafi did they enjoy the most?

A. Rafi sahab has fans at every corner of this world. As far as India is concerned, most of the fans are in the age bracket of more than fifty. One can rarely hear out the old melodies on radio here. There are merely ten songs that one can hear on most of the channels in India. But things are quite different in abroad. They like to hear out old melodies, irrespective of any age group. The radio stations do telecast all the old songs and ghazals quite regularly. They know even about those songs by Rafi sahab that we have hardly heard about. But they really appreciated all the songs.

Q. Was there any foreigner amongst the Indian audience?

A. Yeah, there were few Pakistanis, Afghanis and few British people also. I think Indians bought all the tickets before British people came to know about the concert. You must know about our specialty i.e. we either don’t buy tickets or we buy it before anyone else can go for it.

Q. What do think is the reason that Md. Rafi enjoyed so much fan-following?

A. There are two things that matter most. First and foremost is the X-factor which is very tough to be defined. Kishor Kumar had it in his appearance. Md. Rafi had it in his voice. He started his career and became famous only because of his voice and nothing else. I think that he never thought about his X-factor and that turned to be his most appreciative part.

Q. What would you like to say about the singers from the reality shows?

A. They are good because they are not corrupted. But they also can be corrupted once they come to know about how anyone and everyone can be a singer today. From 14 to 22 of their age they have the will to become good singer but till they reach 25, they lose their intention as because they come to know that they don’t need to sing better to become a good singer.

Q. Music directors are even singing these days. What do you say about that?

A. (Smiling) What would I say? Let all be happy. Who am I to say something? But again, I would like to say that if you will do better then people will appreciate it otherwise people will definitely laugh at you.

Q. But S D Burman, R D Burman and Hemant Kumar were well known as singer cum actor besides their fame as music director.

A. But they never made fool of themselves. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with acting and singing for a music director, but the most important part is that you have to be prepared enough for those roles. Those legends cannot be compared with today’s music directors.

Q. When will you be back into acting?

A. Back in 2001 I hardly had any knowledge about films. Acting doesn’t mean that you always wait for your director to tell you about the expressions. I did the same and now I can understand how it was my mistake. Now I know that co-starts are also very important in a film. I have also noticed how stories look better but they become something else after going through the shooting and editing stages. I didn’t have any idea about how Jaani Dusman will look like after the post production stage. I just thought that Akshay, Suniel, Sunny, Manisha, Aftab and Arshad are signing the film so it has to be something better. Now I am decided that I will do only those films that my audience will love to watch. I know that they cannot accept me in any kind of character. I have many offers but I cannot accept anything and everything. I have to think twice before signing a film. For the time being I am interested in the genre of Vishal Bhardwaj.

Q. What about the reality shows?

A. For the time being I have no wish to join any reality show. I know they offer good amount but I have no wish to break glasses and scream out at people anymore. Even if I have to go for television, I will do something else.
